A hands-on test of eighteen power banks under 30 dollars measured exactly that gap, weighing rated capacity against delivered capacity, output wattage, and recharge time. The results expose which brands are honest about their numbers and which ones are not.
What the testing showed
The numbers below come from Project Farm, who tested eighteen power banks priced under 30 dollars, measuring weight, USB-A and USB-C output wattage, delivered capacity versus rated capacity, and full recharge time. Delivered capacity varied wildly against rated capacity
- INIU B61: rated 37 Wh, delivered 32.7 Wh, an 89 percent capacity-utilization rate, the best of all 18 brands tested.
- KEOLL: rated 95.5 Wh, delivered only 26.5 Wh, a 28 percent utilization rate, called out explicitly as a struggle and the weakest capacity result of the whole field.
- IXNINE: rated 99.2 Wh, delivered 54.8 Wh, a 55 percent utilization rate.
- LOVELEDI: rated 55.5 Wh, delivered 22.5 Wh, a 41 percent utilization rate.
That is a real range from 28 percent to 89 percent of a bank's own claimed capacity actually reaching your phone. A power bank with a bigger number on the box is not automatically the one that will charge your phone more times in a car console over a long drive.
Output speed and recharge time also separated the field
The INIU B61 was named the narrator's explicit personal favorite: "my personal favorite in the battery bank that I would choose is the INIU B61, it also earned A's in every category." It combined the best capacity utilization in the test with a full recharge time of 2 hours 54 minutes, among the fastest of the group, and roughly 20 watts of USB-C output, competitive with the highest-output brands tested. By contrast, the cheapest bank in the test, the S22 Mini at $9, delivered only about 11 watts total across both USB-A ports and a slow 8.7 watt charging rate, with no full recharge time even given in the transcript because it took so long.

How to read this for your own purchase
For a car glovebox charger, three numbers matter more than the headline mAh rating: delivered capacity as a percentage of rated capacity, output wattage (which determines how fast it actually charges your phone), and physical size, since a car console has limited space.
If you want the most reliable single pick, the INIU B61 is the one the test itself singled out by name, on the strength of the best capacity-utilization result of all 18 brands plus competitive charging speed.
If you are shopping by mAh rating alone, stop. The test showed a bank rated at nearly 100 Wh (KEOLL) delivering less real capacity than one rated at just 37 Wh (INIU B61). The rated number on the box tells you almost nothing about what will actually reach your phone.
If size matters more than raw capacity, remember that bigger rated capacity generally means a bigger, heavier unit; the smallest bank in the test (the $9 S22 Mini) was also the smallest in physical size, at the cost of slow charging and a smaller real-world capacity.
It also helps to think about how a car glovebox actually treats a power bank differently than a desk drawer does. A car interior swings through much wider temperature extremes, hot in summer, cold in winter, and lithium cells generally handle both poorly over repeated cycles, shortening real-world lifespan faster than the same bank used indoors. None of the eighteen banks in this test were evaluated for that specific stress, so treat the capacity and output numbers here as a starting point for buying, then store the bank out of direct summer sun and expect to replace it somewhat sooner than a bank kept at room temperature. A bank with a genuinely strong delivered-capacity result, like the INIU B61's 89 percent utilization rate, gives you more margin to lose to heat degradation over the years than a bank that already struggled to deliver its rated capacity when new.
A few universal rules the data supports:
- Ignore the mAh number on the box and look for delivered-capacity data when it exists. It is the only honest measure of what a bank will actually charge.
- Check USB-C output wattage specifically if you charge a modern phone or tablet, since USB-A output was consistently slower across the tested field.
- A slightly pricier, well-reviewed bank is often the better value, since the cheapest bank in this test also had the weakest output and no clear recharge-time figure at all.
